The cybercrime case involving actress Rukmini Vasanth has seen a major breakthrough, with police arresting three individuals accused of creating and circulating AI-generated and morphed images of the actor online. The development comes after the actress filed a formal cybercrime complaint over the misuse of her identity on social media platforms.

According to officials, the accused allegedly used artificial intelligence tools to generate manipulated and explicit visuals falsely depicting the Kantara: Chapter 1 actress. The content was then widely circulated across multiple platforms, prompting swift action from law enforcement agencies.

Cybercrime authorities confirmed that the suspects were traced through digital forensic tracking , which helped identify their online activity and link them to the creation and distribution of the deepfake material. The arrests were carried out in Bengaluru, with reports indicating that two of the accused are from the city and one from another district in Karnataka.

Officials have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and other cybercrime-related sections dealing with identity theft, obscenity, and online impersonation. Investigators are now examining whether a larger network was involved in producing and amplifying the content across social media channels.

The incident adds to a growing list of cases where public figures have been targeted using deepfake technology , raising concerns over the misuse of AI tools for harassment and defamation. Rukmini Vasanth, who has been vocal against such misuse in the past, has previously described the circulation of fabricated images as a serious violation of privacy and urged strict legal action against offenders.

Sources indicate that the actress and her team are fully cooperating with investigators as the probe continues. Authorities have also warned that sharing or distributing morphed or AI-generated content without consent is a punishable offence under Indian law.

Cyber experts note that the case reflects a larger trend of rising digital impersonation crimes, with law enforcement agencies increasingly relying on advanced tracking tools to tackle such offences. The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests have not been ruled out as police trace the wider network behind the circulation of the content.
