Ahead of the Kanwar Yatra 2026, Uttar Pradesh Police have established four temporary police stations and 58 temporary police outposts across the Meerut zone to ensure the safety of devotees during the annual pilgrimage. The arrangements have been put in place four days before the beginning of the holy month of Shravan on July 30, officials said on Sunday.

According to Meerut Zone DIG Kalanidhi Naithani, the temporary police infrastructure has been created to maintain law and order along Kanwar routes and at fairgrounds, manage large crowds, ensure a rapid response during emergencies, and provide immediate assistance to pilgrims.

One temporary police station has been set up in each of four districts under the zone, while the 58 outposts are distributed across Meerut (9), Bulandshahr (17), Baghpat (11) and Hapur (21). Police personnel have been deployed at all these locations.

The DIG has directed officials to make every temporary police station and outpost pilgrim friendly. QR codes will be installed at each unit to provide devotees with route details, nearby facilities and other essential information. Every outpost will also have help desks and first aid facilities.

Police personnel on duty have been instructed to maintain discipline, respond promptly to all information received, treat pilgrims courteously, remain alert to suspicious activities, and provide immediate medical assistance to sick or injured Shiva devotees before shifting them to hospitals if required.

Officials said all temporary police stations and outposts have been mapped using GPS coordinates, enabling real time monitoring by the control room and senior officers. Essential facilities including communication systems, drinking water, electricity, lighting, furniture and other basic amenities have also been provided to ensure smooth functioning throughout the pilgrimage.
