Karur Awaits CM Vijay as He Returns After Stampede Tragedy

Karur is preparing for a significant and emotionally charged day as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay is set to visit the district today. The visit will be his first official trip to the textile hub since assuming office and his first appearance in the district following the tragic stampede of September last year that claimed 41 lives .

The Chief Minister’s itinerary carries both administrative importance and a strong humanitarian message. He is expected to meet the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy at the District Collectorate and personally interact with them. As part of the government’s rehabilitation measures, appointment orders will be handed over to one eligible member from each affected family, fulfilling a major assurance given after the new government came to power.

Across Karur, preparations have gathered pace with less than a day remaining for the visit. Government officials, local authorities and workers of the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) have been working continuously to ensure that the programme proceeds smoothly.

Large pandals have been erected at the main venue, where the Chief Minister is expected to address a public gathering and lay the foundation stone for several welfare and development projects in the district. Special arrangements have been made to regulate the movement of people, with designated entry and exit zones created to avoid overcrowding. Attendance at the public event has been limited to around 5,000 people , and entry will be permitted only through digital QR-code passes .

Security has been significantly strengthened, with more than 5,000 police personnel deployed for crowd management, traffic regulation, venue security and emergency response. Officials from various departments have also reviewed medical facilities, emergency exits and other safety measures ahead of the high-profile visit.

For Karur, Vijay’s visit represents not only the launch of new initiatives but also a moment of remembrance, reassurance and renewal for families still carrying the scars of last year’s tragedy.
