Kasaragod: Body of Man Who Jumped into Kumbla River While Fleeing Police Found

The body of Ibrahim, 35, who allegedly jumped into the Kumbla River while fleeing a police team during an illegal sand extraction operation, was found at Arikady on Thursday, police said.

Ibrahim, a resident of Bambrana village in Arikady Kadavath, was allegedly extracting sand from the Kumbla River with two others on Monday night when they noticed a police team approaching the area, police said.

The three men then jumped into the river, police said. While the two managed to swim to the shore, Ibrahim went missing.

A search operation was launched following his disappearance. Search teams looked along the riverbank and estuary for two days but could not trace him, officials said.

Ibrahim’s body was found on Thursday morning near the spot where he had allegedly jumped into the river, police said.

The body was shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem examination.

Kumbla police had already registered a missing person case in connection with the incident, officials said.

The incident took place during an alleged illegal sand extraction operation in the Kumbla River at Arikady. Police said Ibrahim and the two others were carrying out the activity when they spotted the police team.

After the three entered the river, the two men managed to reach the shore, while Ibrahim could not be traced. Police and search teams subsequently conducted searches along the riverbank and estuary.

The search continued for two days before Ibrahim’s body was located near the place where he had allegedly entered the river.

Police said the body was recovered on Thursday morning and taken to a nearby hospital for postmortem.

The missing person case had been registered by Kumbla police after Ibrahim disappeared. Further details about any separate action in connection with the alleged sand extraction were not provided in the report.

The deceased was identified as Ibrahim of Bambrana village in Arikady Kadavath, police said. The two men who were with him survived after swimming to the shore.
