Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday sparked a fresh political controversy by alleging large-scale irregularities in Telangana's voter rolls, particularly in Kodangal , the Assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy .

Addressing a media conference at the party office in Banjara Hills , Kavitha accused the Election Commission (EC) of failing to ensure transparency in the ongoing voter list revision process. She claimed that discrepancies discovered during a review of electoral rolls raised serious concerns about the integrity of the state's voter database.

Referring to Bodhan Assembly constituency , Kavitha alleged that nearly 7,000 voter names had been deleted within a short period without proper notice being issued to those affected. She argued that electoral rules require authorities to follow a prescribed procedure before removing large numbers of voters from the rolls, and questioned whether those norms had been followed.

The TRS leader said her party's scrutiny of voter records in Kodangal revealed what she described as "shocking anomalies." According to her, only 808 voter names were deleted in Kodangal, while the constituency allegedly contained 22,433 duplicate or fake votes .

Kavitha further claimed that around 11,000 voters from Sedam constituency in Karnataka were also listed as voters in Kodangal. She alleged that the combined number of duplicate and inter-state voters was close to the Chief Minister's winning margin, prompting her to question whether the electoral rolls had been adequately verified.

Raising broader concerns about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Kavitha questioned the rationale behind certain parameters adopted for the exercise. She argued that unless stronger mechanisms are put in place to identify duplicate registrations across states, concerns over electoral accuracy would continue to persist.

Calling for electoral reforms, she advocated a " One Nation, One Election, One Vote " framework and urged authorities to establish stricter safeguards against inter-state duplicate voting . She also sought greater clarity on voter registration procedures for migratory and nomadic communities and called for measures to improve voter convenience at the booth level.

Stating that a transparent and error-free electoral roll is essential for maintaining public trust in the democratic process, Kavitha urged the Election Commission to respond to the concerns raised and ensure greater accountability in voter list management.

The allegations are likely to intensify political debate in Telangana as the state continues its voter verification exercise ahead of future elections. The Election Commission had not publicly responded to the specific claims at the time of reporting.
