Kavitha Defends ‘Idupu Kayitam’ Title, Takes Swipe at Pawan Kalyan Amid Social Media Row
Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kavitha has strongly defended the title of the upcoming Telugu film Idupu Kayitam , which has sparked a heated debate on social media, particularly between netizens from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Responding to the controversy, she remarked that those who wish to understand the meaning of the phrase should ask Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, taking a swipe at the Jana Sena leader amid the ongoing discussion.
The controversy centres around Idupu Kayitam , a film starring Priyadarshi and Naga Durga that is being made with a strong Telangana rural and cultural backdrop. Even before the commencement of shooting, the film's title has attracted widespread attention online, with some social media users questioning and mocking the expression used in the title.
Kavitha alleged that several trolls were ridiculing Telangana’s dialect and vocabulary without understanding its meaning or cultural significance. She said that if people are unfamiliar with a regional expression, they should make an effort to learn about it rather than belittle an entire culture. According to her, the phrase is an authentic part of Telangana’s linguistic heritage and reflects the region’s unique identity.
She also criticised Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of remaining indifferent when Telangana’s language and culture are allegedly being insulted. Kavitha claimed that despite repeated attacks on the state's identity and linguistic traditions, the government has failed to respond adequately.
The TRS leader further expressed disappointment over what she described as the silence of major political parties, including the Congress, BJP and BRS. She said it was deeply unfortunate that political leaders were not speaking up in defence of Telangana’s culture and language , adding that preserving the state's identity is a responsibility shared by all.
Later, after hoisting the TRS flag at Uppal Pista House crossroads, Kavitha reaffirmed her organisation’s commitment to standing with Telangana activists and cultural causes. She also announced that the Telangana Rakshana Sena would organise a major land rights protest at Uppal Bhagayat on July 2 , saying the party would continue to fight for the rights and interests of Telangana people.
Meanwhile, the controversy surrounding Idupu Kayitam has significantly increased public curiosity about the project. Industry observers note that the debate has brought unexpected attention to the film, while supporters argue that the episode has reignited a larger conversation about respecting regional dialects, cultural diversity and Telangana’s linguistic identity .
