Kavitha Demands Immediate Resolution of Employees’ and Teachers’ Issues

Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has demanded that the state government immediately resolve the long-pending problems faced by government employees and teachers. Addressing a conference organised by the Telangana Rakshana Sena on employees’ and teachers’ issues, she urged the government to fulfil its assurances by September 18. If the commitments were not honoured, she called on employee unions to prepare for a Hyderabad siege, assuring them of the organisation’s complete support.

Kavitha recalled the contribution of teachers during the Telangana statehood movement, saying they had put the cause of the movement ahead of their own jobs and actively participated in the struggle. She alleged that the present Congress government was now ignoring the concerns of employees and teachers. Good governance, she said, depended on the cooperation of government employees, and the administration should treat them with respect rather than intimidate them when they raised legitimate grievances.

Expressing concern over the state of government education, Kavitha pointed to what she described as serious shortages in the education department. She said nearly 600 mandals had only eight permanent Mandal Education Officers (MEOs), leaving the system with inadequate administrative supervision. She also claimed that Gurukul institutions and degree colleges were operating with around 40 per cent vacancies. Schools functioning with just a single teacher, she said, were facing particularly difficult circumstances.

Kavitha further alleged that teachers were being denied promotions based on seniority and criticised the government over pending employee benefits. She claimed that government employees had not received Dearness Allowance (DA) for 32 months. With the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) period nearing its end, she demanded an immediate 51 per cent fitment for employees.

She also questioned the effectiveness of the health cards issued to government employees, challenging Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to clarify whether they were being accepted at private hospitals.

Kavitha demanded that the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) be extended to teachers as well as police personnel appointed in 2003. She sought justice for employees affected by GO 317, with special attention to the concerns of women employees, and demanded immediate payment of pending salaries to outsourcing workers.

She urged employees not to fear raising their concerns and assured them of moral support for their fight to secure their rights.
