Kavitha Says “Truth Has Prevailed” After Court Relief
Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha expressed relief after a Delhi court discharged her in the Delhi excise policy case , stating that “ Satyameva Jayate… truth has prevailed .” Reacting to the verdict delivered on Friday, she described the case as a politically motivated “web of lies” and said the judiciary had dismantled the alleged conspiracy.
Kavitha was arrested in March 2024 and spent nearly five months in Tihar Jail before the Supreme Court granted her bail on August 29, 2024 . Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, she reiterated that the case was filed to target Opposition leaders. “This was a web of lies. The judiciary has torn it apart,” she said, thanking her husband, in-laws, parents and Telangana Jagruti activists for their support. Recalling her ordeal, she asked, “Who will give back the five months I should have spent with my children? Who will take responsibility for the time I lost with my family?” She also referred to online trolling and personal attacks during her incarceration.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) alleged that the AAP government in Delhi was destabilised for political reasons and that the BRS was made a scapegoat. He expressed confidence that other cases against BRS leaders would also collapse.
However, Kavitha strongly countered remarks linking the party’s 2023 Assembly election defeat to the excise case. “Do not portray me as responsible for the party’s defeat,” she said, attributing the loss to unfulfilled promises such as housing for the poor and jobs for youth. She questioned the party’s support during her legal battle and said she had fought the cases for three years largely on her own.
