Keerthy Suresh, Radhika Apte’s 'Akka' To Premiere On Netflix On October 30
Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte’s upcoming gangster series 'Akka' will premiere on Netflix on October 30, 2026. The streaming platform announced the release date on Saturday, October 17, while unveiling the teaser of the period drama on the occasion of Suresh’s 34th birthday.
Produced by YRF Entertainment, the series is set in the 1980s in Pernuru, a fictional South Indian kingdom shaped by generations of women who built, governed and protected it. The story explores a world where women hold power and rivalries threaten an established order.
Suresh plays Bhavani, while Apte portrays Rudra. The two powerful women have contrasting perspectives and competing interests, setting the stage for a clash that could reshape Pernuru’s power dynamics. The story also revolves around a female-led criminal empire whose established hierarchy faces an unexpected threat.
Written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, 'Akka' marks his directorial debut. The project brings together two actors known for their varied screen roles in a story centred on power, loyalty, conflict and survival.
The newly unveiled teaser offers audiences a glimpse into the series’ dark, period setting and introduces the two central characters. The fictional kingdom’s distinctive social structure and the rivalry between Bhavani and Rudra form the core of the drama.
The cast also includes Tanvi Azmi, alongside other actors such as Anshumaan Pushkar, Vishak Nair, Pooja Mohanraj, Karthika Muraleedharan, Urmila Krishnan and Divya Sripada.
For Suresh, 'Akka' marks her first series with Netflix and YRF Entertainment. The actor, who has featured in films including 'Nenu Sailaja', 'Mahanati', 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata', 'Dasara' and 'Baby John', won the National Film Award for Best Actress for portraying legendary actor Savitri in the 2018 biographical drama 'Mahanati'.
Speaking about the teaser launch, Suresh said celebrating her birthday by unveiling a project close to her heart made the occasion especially meaningful. She described Bhavani as one of the most unique and memorable characters she has played and said working with Apte brought compelling dynamics to the story.
Apte, who has previously worked on Netflix projects including 'Sacred Games', 'Ghoul' and 'Lust Stories', described Rudra as a character driven by her convictions and an instinct to challenge the world around her. She said the complex characters and tensions arising from their differing perspectives drew her to the series.
Aditya Chopra, Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani serve as executive producers. With its women-led gangster narrative and period setting, 'Akka' is set to arrive on Netflix on October 30.
