Kejriwal Gets Another Term As AAP National Convener, Party Forms New 23-Member National Executive

The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday reaffirmed Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, unanimously re-electing him as its national convener at the party’s 15th National Council meeting and constituting a new 23-member National Executive.

The meeting, held through video conference and chaired by Kejriwal, was attended by 330 National Council members, according to the party. Kejriwal has held the post of national convener since the AAP was formally launched in 2012, making the latest re-election another endorsement of his central role in the party.

The new National Executive includes several prominent AAP leaders, including Atishi, Bhagwant Mann, Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, Gopal Rai, Durgesh Pathak, Dilip Pandey, Satyendar Jain, Rakhi Birla and Shelly Oberoi, besides Kejriwal. Five special invitees, Ajay Dutt, Chaitar Vasava, Imran Hussain, Mehraj Malik and Venzy Viegas, have also been appointed.

Pankaj Gupta was elected national secretary, while N D Gupta will continue as national treasurer. During the meeting, Kejriwal and other senior leaders briefed members on the party’s future strategy, signalling an attempt to consolidate the organisation as it continues to expand its political footprint beyond Delhi.

AAP national media in-charge Anurag Dhanda congratulated Kejriwal, saying the party was ready for “every struggle” under his leadership.

The AAP emerged from the anti-corruption movement and was formally launched in Delhi on November 26, 2012. The Election Commission recognised it as a political party in 2013. Kejriwal, a former Indian Revenue Service officer, subsequently became the face of the organisation and led it to power in Delhi.

He served as Delhi chief minister in three separate terms between 2013 and 2024. The party later expanded its presence to Punjab, where it formed a government, turning AAP from a Delhi-focused political experiment into a party with a wider national ambition.
