The Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police investigation into YouTuber Thoppi (Muhammad Nihad) has been expanded after allegations that he created and circulated obscene videos featuring friends on social media platforms , with authorities now examining his wider digital footprint across YouTube, Instagram and live-streaming platforms , officials said on Sunday.

The case began after a complaint by advocate Sreejith Perumana, leading to a preliminary inquiry in which police confirmed the presence of objectionable content on his accounts. The accused operates multiple channels, with his main YouTube channel exceeding one million subscribers , a large portion reportedly being teenagers, raising concerns about youth exposure to explicit material.

Officials in Kochi stated that investigators have recorded statements of the individuals featured in the videos and are assessing whether the content violates provisions under the Information Technology Act and laws related to publication of obscene digital content . The probe has now been expanded under guidance from state cyber operations authorities , who are reviewing whether repeated violations indicate a broader pattern of online misconduct.

Police sources further said that earlier allegations against the vlogger are also under review, including claims of offensive live-streams, abusive language, and circulation of explicit content , suggesting a possible repeated pattern of digital violations.

Thoppi has previously faced multiple legal cases, including charges related to public nuisance, traffic disruption, and abusive conduct in public spaces , along with a 2025 incident involving alleged intimidation of bus staff using an air gun , though earlier cases did not always lead to sustained prosecution.

Authorities have clarified that no arrest has been made so far , and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
