Kerala Police Asks Meta To Remove TG Mohandas Video Over Gen Z Protest Remarks, Arrest Recorded

Kerala Police has asked social media platforms, including Meta, to remove a controversial video by right-wing commentator T G Mohandas over his remarks about Gen Z students protesting in Delhi over the NEET paper leak. His arrest was formally recorded after he was taken into custody from his Kochi home on Sunday.

Mohandas was detained from his residence in Koovapadam, Kochi, and brought to the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police Station around midnight. Police recorded his arrest there and said he would be produced before a magistrate.

The case concerns videos uploaded on his YouTube channel Pathrika on July 24 and 25. The videos discussed the student protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over the alleged NEET paper leak.

According to the police complaint, Mohandas allegedly said the protest could lead to gang rape and made derogatory remarks about women protesters. He also allegedly said that if he were in charge, he would impose a curfew within a four-kilometre radius of Jantar Mantar, ask protesters to leave three times and then order police to open fire. He allegedly said some could die or suffer serious injuries.

The Kerala government had ordered a probe after complaints from the AIYF, SFI, Youth Congress and Youth League. The City Cyber Police later registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Information Technology Act and Kerala Police Act.

Police have seized electronic devices allegedly used to create and upload the videos. The gadgets will be examined forensically, while investigators are studying his YouTube account. Police have also said more charges may be added.

The RSS has distanced itself from Mohandas, saying his remarks were his personal views and that he does not hold any RSS post. The organisation said it strongly condemned the comments.

Mohandas has reportedly defended the remarks as satire, saying the humour was lost in translation. The BJP, meanwhile, has called his arrest discriminatory.

The case now moves to the courts, where the key question will be whether his remarks crossed the legal line from offensive political speech into criminal provocation. The allegations against him have not been proved in court.
