Ketan Agarwal Murder Probe Intensifies: Court Extends Police Custody of Siya Goyal, Chetan Chaudhary
The investigation into the murder of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal gathered further momentum on Monday after a court in Pune district extended the police custody of the two main accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary , until July 3 . Investigators told the court that several crucial aspects of the case are yet to be examined, including the exact location of the alleged murder , suspected rehearsals before the crime , and the mystery surrounding the victim's missing passport .
The two accused were produced before the court of A M Vibhute in Vadgaon Maval after their initial period of police custody came to an end. Accepting the prosecution's request, the court granted investigators additional time to continue questioning the duo and gather further evidence.
According to the police, 20-year-old Siya Goyal , who was engaged to marry Ketan Agarwal , allegedly conspired with her 22-year-old alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary , to eliminate the businessman. Investigators claim the pair lured Agarwal to Lohagad Fort in Pune district on June 18 , where he was allegedly pushed off a cliff, leading to his death.
During the hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the investigation has revealed that the accused had allegedly visited the fort multiple times before the incident to identify a suitable location for carrying out the murder. Police now want to pinpoint the exact spots where these alleged reconnaissance visits and rehearsals took place, believing they could provide vital evidence about the planning of the crime.
The prosecution also said investigators need to question Goyal regarding the disappearance of Agarwal's passport. According to Assistant Public Prosecutor Rajashri Virkud , police suspect she disposed of the passport while travelling to Mumbai on June 6 , and recovering or tracing it could be significant to the investigation.
Meanwhile, Goyal's counsel, Advocate Vipul Dushing , challenged the police action in court, arguing that her arrest was illegal and carried out without valid legal grounds. The defence opposed the extension of custody, but the court allowed the police more time to continue the investigation.
With investigators now focusing on reconstructing the alleged sequence of events leading up to the murder and collecting additional evidence, the case is expected to witness further developments in the coming days as police continue their probe into one of the most closely watched criminal investigations in Maharashtra.
