Kishan Reddy Writes Open Letter To CM Revanth Reddy Seeking Probe Into Singareni Coal Stocks
Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy has written an open letter to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy , urging an immediate and comprehensive investigation into media reports alleging large-scale irregularities in coal stock management at the Singareni Collieries Company Limited .
According to reports cited in the letter, nearly 40 lakh tonnes of coal , valued at around ₹1,600 crore , is suspected to be unaccounted for. The Union Minister described the allegations as serious and concerning , stressing that they require urgent verification through a transparent and time-bound probe .
Kishan Reddy called on the Telangana government to set up a high-level inquiry to ascertain facts and fix responsibility, if any discrepancies are confirmed. He noted that such issues, if left unaddressed, could damage public trust in one of India’s key coal-producing public sector enterprises.
The Union Minister also highlighted the financial stress faced by Singareni Collieries Company, pointing out that the state government reportedly owes the organisation more than ₹51,500 crore in pending dues . He warned that the combination of financial strain and allegations of missing coal stocks could further affect the company’s operational stability and reputation .
Emphasising the wider impact, Kishan Reddy said the welfare of over 40,000 employees and their families depends on the strength and credibility of the organisation. He underlined that safeguarding coal reserves, strengthening mine security systems , and ensuring accountability were essential to protect the long-term future of the company.
He further suggested that, if wrongdoing is established, strict action must be taken against those responsible to prevent recurrence and ensure institutional discipline.
The Union Minister reiterated that protecting the integrity of Singareni Collieries is a shared responsibility between the Centre and the State, calling for coordinated efforts to safeguard one of the country’s most important coal mining institutions.
