KP Trust Revokes Permission for Rahul Gandhi's Prayagraj Student Event

The Kayastha Pathshala (KP) Trust has withdrawn permission for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme, scheduled to be held at KP Ground in Prayagraj on August 8, citing an Allahabad High Court order restricting the use of the venue and concerns over waterlogging following recent rains.

Speaking to PTI, KP Trust acting president Jitendra Nath Chaudhary said the trust decided to revoke the permission after taking into account a High Court order dated August 14, 2025, which directed that the KP College ground should be used only for sports and educational activities. He added that heavy rainfall had left the ground waterlogged, making it unsafe to host a large public gathering.

Chaudhary also clarified that the permission initially granted to the Congress party was conditional upon approval from the district magistrate. In view of the court's directions and the prevailing condition of the venue, the trust decided to withdraw its approval for the event.

The 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme was expected to feature an interaction between Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and students on issues affecting the youth. The discussion was slated to focus on alleged examination paper leaks, concerns over recruitment processes, and other matters related to education and employment.

The development comes even as the Congress had stepped up preparations for the event. On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai visited Prayagraj to review the arrangements ahead of the proposed programme.

The withdrawal of permission has cast uncertainty over the event, with no immediate announcement from the Congress on whether the programme will be shifted to an alternative venue or rescheduled. The party is yet to issue an official response to the trust's decision.
