KPMG Wins ₹3.54 Crore Contract for Tirupati Economic Plan
The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a significant step towards advancing balanced regional development by appointing KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd. as the Strategic Support Agency and Knowledge Partner for preparing a comprehensive development blueprint for the Tirupati Economic Region (TER). The government has approved ₹3.54 crore for the assignment, which is expected to lay the foundation for long-term economic transformation in the region.
The appointment was formalised through a Government Order (GO) issued by Planning Department Principal Secretary Piyush Kumar after KPMG emerged as the successful bidder in the state's e-tendering process. The consulting firm will be responsible for preparing a detailed Economic Development Plan (EDP) that identifies the region's strengths, growth opportunities, and investment priorities.
The proposed blueprint will provide a strategic framework to accelerate development across key sectors, including manufacturing, tourism, trade, logistics, services, infrastructure, and MSMEs. It will also examine the region's economic profile, recommend measures to improve connectivity and urban infrastructure, identify high-potential investment sectors, strengthen skill development, and suggest policy interventions aimed at boosting industrial growth and employment.
The initiative forms part of Andhra Pradesh's broader vision of promoting decentralised economic growth through three dedicated economic zones—the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER), Amaravati Economic Region (AER), and Tirupati Economic Region (TER). Rather than concentrating development in a single urban centre, the government plans to prepare customised growth strategies for each region based on their unique industrial strengths, natural resources, transport networks, tourism assets, and workforce potential.
The Tirupati Economic Region is strategically positioned to become one of the state's most dynamic growth corridors. Apart from being home to globally renowned pilgrimage centres such as Tirupati and Srikalahasti, the region benefits from a strong industrial base, reputed educational institutions, Tirupati International Airport, national highway connectivity, and close proximity to Chennai, one of India's largest manufacturing and export hubs. These advantages provide immense potential for expanding investments in electronics, advanced manufacturing, logistics, aerospace, food processing, exports, and the services sector.
The region is also expected to leverage national infrastructure initiatives such as the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, which aims to strengthen industrial connectivity and improve supply chains across southern India. Enhanced multimodal transport links and industrial clusters are expected to improve the region's competitiveness and attract global manufacturers.
Officials believe the comprehensive development plan will serve as a roadmap for attracting both domestic and foreign investments while facilitating coordinated infrastructure development. By identifying future industrial clusters, improving ease of doing business, and aligning workforce skills with emerging industries, the blueprint is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and strengthen the regional economy.
