KTR Accuses Congress of Withholding ₹30,000 Crore in Farmer Aid
Intensifying the political battle over farmer welfare in Telangana, BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Tuesday accused the Congress government of failing to honor its election promises and withholding nearly ₹30,000 crore in Rythu Bharosa assistance that farmers were entitled to receive.
In a sharp attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , KTR said the government had failed to deliver meaningful support to the farming community despite repeatedly projecting itself as pro-farmer. Taking to social media platform X, he alleged that the Congress administration had not released several installments of investment assistance, leaving lakhs of farmers without crucial financial support during successive crop seasons.
KTR criticized what he described as the government's focus on publicity-driven events rather than addressing the concerns of cultivators. He remarked that even routine fund releases were being turned into large public gatherings and political showcases, while farmers continued to wait for promised benefits.
The former minister claimed that the Congress had assured farmers ₹15,000 per acre annually before coming to power but had failed to fulfill that commitment. According to him, nearly 70 lakh farmers across the state are frustrated over the delay in implementing key agricultural guarantees. He demanded that the government explain why multiple installments of Rythu Bharosa assistance had not reached beneficiaries despite repeated assurances.
KTR also questioned the implementation of the government's much-publicized farm loan waiver up to ₹2 lakh , alleging that several eligible farmers were yet to receive complete relief. He further pointed to complaints regarding urea shortages , procurement-related issues, and rising cultivation costs, arguing that these challenges have added to the burden on the agricultural sector.
Drawing a comparison with the previous BRS government , KTR highlighted the achievements of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) , stating that the Rythu Bandhu scheme had become a national model for direct investment support to farmers. He noted that more than ₹73,000 crore was transferred directly into farmers' bank accounts through multiple installments during the BRS regime, providing timely assistance for agricultural operations.
The Congress government, meanwhile, has maintained that farmer welfare remains a priority and that benefits under Rythu Bharosa and the loan waiver program are being implemented in phases. However, KTR insisted that the gap between promises and delivery has widened, turning farmer welfare into one of the most contentious political issues in Telangana.
As the war of words between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS intensifies, farmer welfare, investment assistance, crop procurement, and loan waivers are expected to remain at the center of Telangana's political discourse in the run-up to future elections.
