KTR Alleges Forced Acquisition of Assigned Lands, Warns of Legal Action
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday accused the Congress government in Telangana of forcibly acquiring assigned lands belonging to Dalit and tribal families despite earlier promises to grant ownership rights to such beneficiaries.
Addressing a meeting of key BRS workers and a training programme related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Parigi, KTR alleged that the state government was acting against the interests of marginalised communities by taking over their lands in the name of industrial development .
He claimed that land acquisition activities in the Parigi constituency were being carried out without the consent of local farmers and criticised the government for what he described as a betrayal of pre-election assurances. Referring to the Lagcherla incident , KTR urged people not to forget the developments surrounding the proposed acquisition of land for industrial projects.
The BRS leader further alleged that farmers who opposed handing over their lands for a proposed pharma and industrial project were subjected to police action and criminal cases . He accused the government of treating affected tribal youth unfairly, claiming that some were jailed and denied proper consideration even when facing health-related issues.
KTR also charged the Congress government with failing to fulfil promises made to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He said commitments relating to the Ambedkar Abhayahastam scheme and the regularisation of assigned lands had not been honoured. According to him, the same lands that were promised ownership rights before the elections are now being targeted for acquisition.
He further questioned the implementation of assurances regarding the ₹4,400-crore Kodangal Lift Irrigation Project , alleging that promises to allocate a significant share of contracts to SC, ST and BC communities had not materialised.
Reiterating the BRS party's opposition to the acquisition of assigned lands from poor families, KTR said any land procurement process should begin only after granting legal ownership rights to eligible farmers. He maintained that land should be acquired only with the full consent of landowners and after payment of adequate compensation.
The former minister assured affected farmers that the BRS would stand by them and, if necessary, pursue a legal battle against what he termed unlawful land acquisition. He also called upon party workers to actively support farmers and local residents at the grassroots level.
Former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and several senior BRS leaders were present at the programme.
