KTR Challenges Revanth Reddy to Seek Early Polls, Says BRS Remains a Strong Political Force

The political confrontation between Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) intensified on Saturday, with the opposition leader daring the Congress government to seek an early electoral mandate and test its popularity before the people.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, KTR took strong exception to Revanth Reddy’s recent assertion that the Congress would secure a commanding majority even after the proposed delimitation exercise increases the number of Assembly constituencies in the state. Rejecting the Chief Minister’s confidence, KTR said the Congress should prove its strength through elections rather than political claims.

He challenged the government to dissolve the Assembly or announce elections, including bypolls or local body polls, if it was genuinely confident of public support. According to KTR, the Congress came to power by making promises that it has struggled to fulfil, and voters are now reassessing their verdict.

The BRS leader claimed that multiple surveys conducted in the state indicate a significant shift in public opinion. He asserted that even without constituency delimitation, the BRS is on course to win a clear majority and return to power. Referring to the Congress leadership’s projections about future electoral success, KTR argued that political fortunes can change quickly and that the BRS remains a formidable force under the leadership of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) .

Drawing a comparison with national politics, KTR said repeated electoral setbacks had not ended the relevance of the Congress party, and similarly, the BRS should not be underestimated because of its defeat in the last Assembly elections.

KTR also launched a sharp attack on the state government over the recent mass murder case in Shabad in Rangareddy district, where six people were allegedly killed by a POCSO case accused. Describing the incident as a reflection of governance failure, he alleged that the Congress administration had failed to ensure the safety of women and children.

He questioned the effectiveness of law and order under the current government and said the tragedy had exposed serious concerns about public security. KTR further argued that the circumstances surrounding the case, including the accused obtaining bail before the killings, raised troubling questions that the government must answer.

The remarks are the latest in an increasingly heated political exchange between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS as both parties position themselves for future electoral battles in Telangana.
