The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is set to intensify its campaign against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the party announcing a protest outside the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Hyderabad on Saturday. The party is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the voter list revision process has undermined citizens’ democratic rights.

BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has called for a comprehensive and independent investigation into the alleged deletion of a large number of voters from constituencies represented by BRS MLAs. He has demanded that the inquiry be conducted under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge to ensure transparency and accountability.

KTR said the CEC should take moral responsibility for the alleged irregularities and resign from his post. Emphasising the importance of constitutional rights, he asserted that no Indian citizen should be deprived of the right to vote.

“There is nothing greater than the Constitution of India. No individual is greater than an institution,” KTR said, questioning why efforts were being made to protect one person at the expense of the rights of millions of citizens.

Referring to India’s history, the BRS leader noted that numerous individuals had come and gone, but the country had continued its journey. He questioned how one person could be considered more important than the rights of 140 crore Indians.

KTR also criticised what he described as attempts to build a system that undermines the country’s democratic spirit. He asserted that those responsible for such efforts, along with the CEC, could no longer avoid accountability.

The proposed demonstration in Hyderabad is part of the party’s broader campaign seeking an investigation into the alleged electoral irregularities. Following the protest, BRS plans to take its agitation to New Delhi, signalling its intention to escalate the issue beyond Telangana.

The party said it would announce further details of its next course of action at a later date.
