KTR Praises Farmers’ Protest for Jurala Irrigation Water

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) launched a strong attack on the Telangana Congress government, alleging that the failure to release irrigation water from the Jurala project had left farmers’ fields drying up. He praised farmers for standing up for their rights and described their ongoing protest as an inspiring example of collective resistance.

Responding to the farmers’ agitation, KTR took to X and highlighted the traditional methods adopted by farmers during their protest. Referring to their determination to secure water for their crops, he remarked, “There is nothing to lose by fighting except the shackles of slavery.”

KTR said the farmers had demonstrated considerable courage by raising their voices at a time when their agricultural fields were facing a severe shortage of irrigation water. He praised their efforts to draw the government’s attention to the issue and said their struggle reflected the importance of standing up for legitimate rights.

Taking a sharp dig at the state government, KTR compared it to Kumbhakarna, the mythological character known for his long periods of sleep. He said the farmers had effectively shaken the government out of its alleged inaction by taking their concerns directly to the streets.

The BRS working president also thanked the farmers and BRS leaders who participated in the agitation. He acknowledged the efforts of party leaders who stood alongside the farmers and joined their campaign seeking the release of water from the Jurala project.

KTR said ensuring that the government responds to the basic needs of Telangana’s people would remain a key responsibility for his party during the remaining two years of the current political term. He called for sustained efforts to question the government and demand action on issues affecting the people.

He further said the people of Telangana must continue to raise their voices whenever their interests and rights are at stake. According to KTR, questioning the government, fighting for people’s concerns and defending Telangana’s rights would remain central to the political agenda ahead.

The remarks come amid the farmers’ agitation over the reported shortage of irrigation water, with the protesters demanding steps to prevent further damage to their crops and ensure adequate water supply from the Jurala project.
