Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has written an open letter to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , urging the government to increase the proposed police recruitment drive from 5,000 posts to at least 20,000 posts and address the concerns of lakhs of unemployed youth preparing for police jobs.

In his letter, KTR said a large number of aspirants waiting for Police Constable and Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment opportunities belong to rural, poor and middle-class families. Many of them have spent years preparing for competitive examinations while staying in hostels and paying guest accommodations away from their families. He said the government has a responsibility to protect the aspirations of such candidates and ensure that they are not denied fair opportunities.

Recalling that the Telangana movement was driven by the slogan of "water, funds and jobs," KTR said the government should not ignore the demands of unemployed youth. He argued that issuing a notification for only 5,000 posts cannot be considered an adequate response to the state's recruitment needs.

Citing information obtained through the Right to Information (RTI) Act , KTR claimed that around 17,000 police posts are currently vacant in Telangana. He also noted that the Chief Minister had earlier stated that nearly 12,000 vacancies existed in the department. Despite this, the government is reportedly preparing to fill only 5,000 posts, a move that he said has disappointed nearly 1.5 million aspirants , many of whom have been staging protests in Hyderabad.

Highlighting the previous BRS government's record, KTR said nearly 47,000 police jobs were notified in three phases. According to him, notifications were issued for 9,281 Constable posts and 539 SI posts in 2016, 18,428 Constable posts and 1,271 SI posts in 2018, and 16,614 Constable posts and 554 SI posts in 2022. He further claimed that the BRS government issued notifications for 2.32 lakh government jobs and completed recruitment for more than 1.60 lakh positions .

The BRS leader also criticised the Congress government for allegedly failing to fulfil major election promises, including a job calendar , recruitment of two lakh government employees within a year , and unemployment assistance of Rs 4,000 per month .

KTR also raised concerns about age eligibility. Referring to GO No. 87 , he said the upper age limit is currently 35 years for SI candidates and 32 years for Constable candidates. As four years have passed since the last major police recruitment notification, many aspirants have exceeded the prescribed age limits. He demanded that the upper age limit be increased to 37 years for SI candidates and 36 years for Constable candidates .

He further sought a review of recruitment rules, arguing that it is unreasonable for a candidate eligible for an SI post to be declared ineligible for a Constable post despite similar physical standards in the selection process.

KTR urged the government to fill vacancies across all departments and issue a recruitment notification for at least 20,000 police posts . He warned that the BRS would launch a large-scale agitation in support of unemployed youth if the government failed to address their demands.
