Kyiv Under Fire: Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Kills 17, Leaves Dozens Injured

A massive Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv and the surrounding region has killed at least 17 people and injured 44 others, marking another deadly escalation in Moscow’s long-range attacks against Ukrainian cities.

The overnight attack saw waves of missiles and drones strike multiple locations, triggering fires across the Kyiv region and damaging warehouses, logistics facilities and industrial sites. Emergency teams worked through the night to control fires and search damaged areas for survivors.

Ukraine’s emergency services reported heavy destruction in areas including Brovary, Bucha and Fastiv districts, where large warehouse and infrastructure fires broke out. In Kyiv city, emergency crews responded to damage in several districts, including Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi and Desnianskyi.

The attack has intensified concerns over Ukraine’s air defence capabilities. Kyiv relies heavily on US-made Patriot missile systems, which remain the only defence systems in its arsenal capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly warned that limited supplies of interceptor missiles make it increasingly difficult to stop large-scale Russian attacks.

The latest strike comes as both sides continue expanding long-range operations. Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks targeting Russian energy infrastructure and oil facilities, while Moscow has increased missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.

Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser involved in Ukraine’s defence technology development, said the war had entered a new phase, with Russian attacks increasingly targeting logistics hubs, warehouses, businesses and supply networks.
