Kylian Mbappé Suffers Left Knee Hyperextension, Real Madrid Confirms Injury

Kylian Mbappé’s return to the spotlight for France ended with an injury scare as the Real Madrid striker was diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee following the Nations League win over Turkey.

Mbappé scored the only goal in France’s 1-0 victory on Friday, taking his international tally to a record-extending 67 goals. However, his landmark moment was quickly overshadowed when he limped off shortly after finding the net.

France coach Zinedine Zidane had raised concerns after the match, saying the initial prognosis was “not good”. Real Madrid subsequently confirmed the nature of the injury after its medical team examined the forward on Saturday.

“After the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by Real Madrid's Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of his left knee,” the Spanish club said.

Real Madrid did not provide a recovery timeline or specify what treatment Mbappé would undergo. That leaves uncertainty over whether the 27-year-old will be available for France’s upcoming Nations League fixtures or return to club action immediately after the international break.

France is scheduled to face Belgium away on Monday, before hosting Italy on October 2 and Belgium again three days later at the Stade de France.

Mbappé’s condition will therefore be closely monitored by both France and Real Madrid, particularly with the club season continuing at a demanding pace.

The injury comes after the forward had made his mark with another important contribution for France. His 67th international goal further extended his record as France’s leading scorer, but his early departure from the match has now shifted attention to the extent of the knee problem and how quickly he can return.
