Parliament proceedings were disrupted on Friday as Opposition parties protested over the NEET paper leak controversy, alleged police action against protesters, and claims related to Ram temple donation irregularities in Ayodhya. The uproar led to the adjournment of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the day.

In the Lok Sabha, Opposition members demanded a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police excesses during student protests against the NEET paper leak. Amid continuous sloganeering, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju rejected the demand, saying the Opposition cannot decide which minister should respond in the House.

Rijiju said ministers attend parliamentary proceedings based on their departmental responsibilities and defended Shah’s presence in Parliament. He accused Opposition parties of repeatedly disrupting proceedings instead of allowing legislative business to continue. Despite the protests, the Lok Sabha completed some listed business, including the presentation of parliamentary committee reports and papers. The House also passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without a debate amid the commotion. The Question Hour and Zero Hour were affected before the House was adjourned until Monday.

A similar situation unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where Opposition MPs, led by the Congress, raised slogans demanding Amit Shah’s presence. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the Home Minister’s absence from the House during the Monsoon Session and sought a response on the July 20 police action against NEET protesters marching towards Parliament.

Opposition members also raised allegations concerning the handling of donations linked to the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan continued with listed proceedings despite the disruptions and allowed some Zero Hour mentions. However, persistent protests forced the House to be adjourned.
