Luffy Fans, Get Ready! One Piece God Valley Movie Confirmed for Summer 2027

One Piece is heading back to cinemas with a major new story. Toei Animation and creator Eiichiro Oda announced two new theatrical films One Piece Film: God Valley and One Piece Film: Baad during One Piece Day 2026 on August 23. The announcement marks the franchise's first major theatrical projects since One Piece Film: Red in 2022.

One Piece Film: God Valley is scheduled to arrive in Japanese theatres in summer 2027, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Oda's original manga. The film will adapt the God Valley Incident, a pivotal historical event currently being explored through a flashback in the ongoing Elbaph Arc of the manga and anime. The story is expected to centre on the legendary confrontation involving Rocks D. Xebec, Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp. The incident, which occurred decades before Luffy's journey began, has become one of the most significant mysteries in the One Piece storyline.

Unlike many previous One Piece theatrical releases, God Valley is particularly notable because it is adapting manga material directly connected to the main storyline. Earlier films such as Film: Red, Stampede and Gold largely featured standalone or non-canon stories. The new project therefore represents a significant shift toward bringing Oda's ongoing canon narrative to the big screen.

For anime viewers, the film is directly connected to the same story universe and continuity as the television anime, rather than being a separate adaptation like Netflix's live-action series. However, because the God Valley material is part of the currently developing Elbaph storyline, fans may want to follow the manga or the anime to understand the wider context. Toei has so far released only a short teaser announcing the two films. Details including the director, production staff, voice cast, runtime and international release schedule have not yet been confirmed. Reports currently describe God Valley as an announced project, with no detailed production timeline publicly disclosed.

The second project, One Piece Film: Baad, is scheduled for 2029, although its plot and connection to the main storyline remain unknown. The announcement has also intensified comparisons with Demon Slayer, whose Infinity Castle film trilogy is driving major anime box-office attention. With One Piece and Demon Slayer projects potentially arriving around the same period, 2027 could become a particularly significant year for anime cinema.
