DMK President and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday departed for London , triggering a large turnout of party cadres at Chennai airport that led to traffic congestion and crowd management challenges in the surrounding area.

Stalin travelled along with his wife Durga Stalin and son, former Deputy Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin , on an Emirates flight. Senior DMK leaders, including former ministers TM Anbarasan, PK Sekar Babu, and Ma Subramanian , were present at the airport to see them off, alongside a significant number of party workers.

The gathering of cadres in large numbers resulted in vehicular slowdowns and traffic disruption near the airport premises, prompting concerns over crowd regulation and management during high-profile political departures.

According to party sources, Stalin’s visit is a personal trip to attend the graduation ceremony of his grandson Inbanidhi , who has completed a sports-related course in the United Kingdom.

However, the visit also carries political significance , as large-scale mobilisation of cadres for the farewell highlighted Stalin’s continued organisational influence within the DMK and the party’s capacity for mass mobilisation even during non-political events.

The incident once again brought attention to the recurring issue of traffic disruption during political gatherings in Chennai , especially around sensitive infrastructure zones like the airport.
