M Sreeshankar made a confident start to his Commonwealth Games 2026 campaign by securing a place in the men's long jump final with a first-attempt qualification in Glasgow on Monday.

The 27-year-old Indian, who entered the competition as one of the country's strongest medal prospects in athletics, comfortably crossed the automatic qualification mark with a leap of 8.01m in Group A, eliminating the need for any further attempts in the qualifying round.
