Mahesh Kumar Goud Accuses BJP of Undermining Constitutional Institutions
TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud said the Congress party’s history was built on sacrifice and dedication to the nation, with its leaders devoting their lives to the country. Criticising the BJP for speaking about patriotism despite its alleged lack of participation in the freedom struggle, he stressed the importance of protecting India’s democracy, constitutional values and national unity.
A commemorative meeting was organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Memorial Committee at Charminar in Hyderabad, under the chairmanship of State Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC secretary Sachin Sawant and AICC leader Gidugu Rudra Raju attended as chief guests. Several Congress leaders and representatives from the state and district levels also participated.
Goud paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, highlighting his efforts to modernise the country and strengthen democratic participation. He recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s role in extending voting rights to 18-year-olds and promoting the adoption of modern technology in India.
He also emphasised Rajiv Gandhi’s special association with Charminar and said his contributions to national development would remain memorable. Referring to the sacrifices of Indira Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, Goud said their commitment to the country continued to inspire Congress workers. He recalled Indira Gandhi’s willingness to sacrifice her life for the nation and Sonia Gandhi’s decision to give up the opportunity to become Prime Minister. He urged young people to learn about the Congress party’s history and its role in the independence movement.
Goud alleged that certain forces were attempting to prolong their hold on power by weakening constitutional institutions. He also accused them of trying to remove voters’ names from electoral rolls on the basis of religion and caste.
Questioning the contributions of the BJP and RSS, he asked whether their leaders had shed even a drop of blood for the country. He assured Congress workers that their contributions would receive recognition and respect.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment to Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi’s ideals, Goud said the Congress would continue to defend national integrity and democratic principles.
The meeting concluded with an appeal to uphold communal harmony and social unity, drawing inspiration from Rajiv Gandhi’s Sadbhavana Yatra. TPCC vice-presidents, District Congress Committee presidents, party general secretaries and other leaders attended the programme.
