A potentially fatal mishap was narrowly averted after a moving car caught fire and was completely gutted on National Highway 216-A in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Sunday morning. The driver escaped safely due to his quick response and the timely warning given by local residents.

The incident took place near Madiki village in Alamuru mandal . According to police, Kusume Chiranjeevi of Kothapeta was driving towards Rajamahendravaram railway station when the accident occurred. As the vehicle approached the village outskirts, bystanders noticed thick smoke emerging from the rear portion of the car and alerted the driver by shouting. Acting without delay, he steered the vehicle to the roadside and stepped out. Within moments, flames engulfed the car and it was reduced to a charred shell.

Alamuru Sub-Inspector Naresh and police personnel reached the scene promptly, while fire services teams extinguished the blaze. Traffic was briefly disrupted on the busy highway stretch before authorities regulated the flow of vehicles.

Preliminary assessment suggests the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit or mechanical fault . Highway vehicle fires are often linked to wiring failures, fuel leaks, overheating engines, or poor maintenance. Officials advised motorists to ensure regular servicing , inspect electrical systems and fuel lines, and stay alert to warning signs such as smoke, burning smells, or unusual engine behaviour.

Authorities recommend pulling over immediately and moving to a safe distance if smoke or sparks appear. In this case, the alertness of locals and the driver’s swift action prevented loss of life , averting a major tragedy.
