Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Scheme to Irrigate One Lakh Acres: CM Revanth
Reinforcing his government's commitment to strengthening Telangana's irrigation network, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has stepped up efforts to fast-track major pending projects aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring water security for farmers.
As part of a two-day tour of the erstwhile Palamuru region, the Chief Minister on Thursday inspected the ongoing works of the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme (MNKLIS) in Narayanpet district. The project, once completed, is expected to provide irrigation facilities to nearly one lakh acres , bringing significant relief to farmers in drought-prone areas of southern Telangana.
The Chief Minister visited Katrevupally village in Makthal constituency, where he reviewed the progress of Package-1 works, including the construction of the project's pump house. Officials briefed him on the current status of the scheme through detailed presentations and photographs showcasing various stages of construction.
Expressing concern over delays in certain components, Revanth Reddy directed officials to accelerate the pace of work and remove bottlenecks that could affect project timelines. He made it clear that the government would closely monitor progress and would not tolerate unnecessary delays in projects that directly impact farmers' livelihoods.
The Chief Minister's visit comes at a time when the state government is placing renewed emphasis on completing long-pending irrigation infrastructure. Officials said the administration views projects such as MNKLIS and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme as critical to addressing water shortages and expanding cultivable land across the region.
The inspection was attended by Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy , Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha , Minister Jupally Krishna Rao , and other senior officials. Former Karnataka minister N.S. Boseraju was also present during the visit.
On Friday, Revanth Reddy is scheduled to undertake a comprehensive review of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, one of Telangana's most ambitious irrigation initiatives. The Chief Minister will inspect the Narlapur Reservoir , canal systems, pump houses and the Yedula Reservoir , besides conducting an aerial survey to assess the progress of key infrastructure works from above.
He is also expected to visit the Karivena and Uddandapur reservoirs , both of which play a crucial role in the region's irrigation network. Officials are likely to brief him on issues related to land acquisition, construction challenges and pending clearances, with directions expected for their swift resolution.
The government believes that regular field inspections by the Chief Minister will help speed up project execution and improve accountability. By closely monitoring works on the ground, the administration hopes to ensure that the benefits of these large-scale irrigation projects reach farmers without further delay.
The Chief Minister will conclude his tour with a public meeting at Uddandapur , where he is expected to outline the government's vision for irrigation development and agricultural growth. Farmers in the region are hopeful that the renewed focus on water infrastructure will finally translate into reliable irrigation and long-term economic benefits for rural communities.
