Mammootty Turns 75 With ‘Mela’ First Look And ‘OM’ Character Reveal

Malayalam superstar Mammootty turned 75 on September 7, 2026, with fans, film personalities and political leaders joining the celebrations. The milestone also brought major updates from his upcoming projects, including the first look of ‘Mela’ and a character reveal from Tamil film ‘OM: Chapter One’.

The title and first-look poster of ‘Mela’ were unveiled shortly after midnight on September 7 as a birthday surprise. Mammootty shared the poster on social media, announcing the project as the ninth production venture of Mammootty Kampany.

Directed by Nithish Sahadev, the film is being presented as a big-budget mass action entertainer. Nithish Sahadev and Anuraj OB have written the screenplay, while Jimshi Khalid is handling cinematography. Shooting began in late July, with the film reportedly being Mammootty Kampany’s biggest production so far and targeting a 2027 theatrical release.

The first look features Mammootty in a rugged avatar, dressed in a black shirt and mundu. He is reportedly set to play a gangster who owns a circus company. The title also recalls Mammootty’s 1980 film ‘Mela’, creating an interesting connection with his early career.

Meanwhile, the makers of ‘OM: Chapter One’ released the ‘Siya Entry’ glimpse, introducing Mammootty as Karthikeya. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the Tamil film also stars Dhanush and marks Mammootty’s return to Tamil cinema after ‘Peranbu’ (2019). His character is described as an international smuggler.

Birthday tributes poured in from across the industry, with Mohanlal praising Mammootty’s enduring passion for cinema. Political leaders and fans also joined the celebrations, while fan associations organised charitable activities, including a statewide blood donation drive.

At 75, Mammootty continues to command attention with a packed lineup spanning Malayalam and Tamil cinema.
