Man and 14 year old daughter end lives on railway track
A tragic incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district , where a 45-year-old man and his teenage daughter allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a goods train on the Kanpur-Lucknow rail route, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 8:45 pm on Monday near Sahajani crossing in the Shuklaganj area, ahead of Gangaghat railway station , on the down track.
According to preliminary information, Yash Gupta (45) and his 14-year-old daughter reportedly jumped onto the railway track as a goods train approached, resulting in their death on the spot. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and local police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the incident.
For safety reasons, train movement on the down track was halted for a brief period, disrupting rail traffic. Officials said the Lucknow-bound Tejas Express and Gomti Express were delayed temporarily due to the incident.
During a search of the surrounding area, police found a white car with a Kanpur registration number parked about 200 metres from the site towards Dewarakala village. Documents and a mobile phone recovered from the vehicle confirmed that it belonged to Yash Gupta. Based on these details, the family members were informed and arrived at the spot to identify the bodies. The deceased were formally identified by Gupta’s wife.
Police said the exact reason behind the alleged suicide is still not known . No suicide note has been recovered so far. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the family may have been facing personal or domestic distress , but officials stressed that this has not yet been confirmed.
“The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination. Further action will be taken based on the statements of family members and other evidence collected during the investigation,” the station house officer said.
Authorities have registered a case and are continuing the probe to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic deaths.
