A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly making phone calls threatening to kill the Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and his family, while a separate case was registered in Kannur over a death threat received by Thaliparamba MLA T.K. Govindan , police officials said.

The accused, identified as Sony Thomas of Attingal , allegedly called the Thiruvananthapuram City District Police Command and Control Centre (DPCC) on Friday evening and threatened to kill Satheesan and his family. According to the FIR, when questioned about the reason, the caller reportedly said that he did not like the Chief Minister.

Police said the accused called again minutes later, repeated the threat, verbally abused the officer who attended the call, and enquired about the security arrangements provided to Satheesan. Following the complaint, the Cantonment police registered a case and traced the phone number used for the calls.

Thomas was taken into custody from Attingal on Saturday morning. Officials said he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of making the calls. He is expected to be produced before a court as part of remand proceedings.

In a separate incident, Mayyil police station in Kannur registered a case after MLA T.K. Govindan allegedly received a phone call threatening to kill him on Friday afternoon. Police said the caller abused and threatened the legislator during the conversation. The suspect has been identified and further action is under way.

The incidents have renewed concerns over threats against public officials and elected representatives , highlighting the need for swift law-enforcement response and robust security measures to address potential risks to public figures.
