
Man Stabbed At Jamshedpur Bar For Protesting Eve Teasing Dies, Four Policemen Suspended
A man who was critically injured in a stabbing incident following alleged eve teasing at a bar in Jamshedpur’s Bistupur area has died during treatment, escalating the case into a murder investigation and triggering widespread protests, administrative action, and political criticism over law and order in the city. The victim, Himanshu Singh , was attacked on Saturday night after he and another man objected to alleged eve teasing at the “Double Down” bar and lounge, police said.
According to initial police findings, officers reached the spot and placed the two injured men in a patrol vehicle. However, the accused allegedly dragged them out of the police vehicle and attacked them with sharp weapons on the road. Himanshu Singh later died at Tata Main Hospital , while the second victim remains in critical condition.
Police have now converted the case into a murder investigation after Singh’s death. Recent updates confirm that at least two accused have been arrested , while searches continue for others. The FIR now names around 10–11 accused , including the bar owner and a local political figure, with charges of attempted murder upgraded following the fatal outcome.
In a significant administrative development, a departmental probe citing CCTV footage and alleged lapses in response has led to the suspension of four police personnel, including the Bistupur SHO along with two assistant sub inspectors and a constable .
The incident has triggered large-scale protests in Jamshedpur, with road blockades, tyre burning, and clashes reported at Bistupur roundabout. Protesters accused police of negligence and claimed key accused were still at large. Political reactions have intensified, with local leaders and Union minister-level voices raising concerns over policing failure and citizen safety in Jharkhand.
Authorities have deployed additional forces as tensions continue in the city and investigations proceed.
