Mangaluru-Bengaluru Train Services Resume After Two-Day Suspension Due to Landslides

Train services between Mangaluru and Bengaluru resumed on Monday night after remaining suspended for two days following landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats, railway officials said.

Rail traffic on the route was restored after railway personnel cleared mud, boulders and debris from the affected track stretch between Siribagilu and Yedakumari in the Subrahmanya Road-Sakleshpur ghat section, one of the most challenging routes in the region.

According to Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, the track was inspected and certified fit for operations at 7.25 pm on Monday, following which train movement was gradually resumed.

Several important services returned to operation, including the Vijayapura-Mangaluru Express, KSR Bengaluru-Karwar Panchaganga Express, KSR Bengaluru-Kozhikode Express and SMVT Bengaluru-Murdeshwar Express.

However, the Karwar-KSR Bengaluru Panchaganga Express (16596) remained cancelled on Monday due to the non-availability of a rake, railway authorities said.

The railway administration launched an extensive restoration operation immediately after receiving reports of the landslide. Relief trains, engineering teams, JCB excavators and heavy machinery were deployed at the site, with workers continuing operations round the clock to remove the accumulated mud and rocks.

Railway engineers also carried out slope protection work by placing sandbags along vulnerable areas before declaring the track safe for passenger movement.

Officials said that since restoration was completed only on Monday evening, most trains that resumed services experienced delays of around two hours or more. The restoration has brought back crucial rail connectivity between the coastal Karnataka region and Bengaluru after the weather-related disruption.
