Manipur CM Y Khemchand Singh Chairs All-Party Meet on NRC, State Security

An all-party meeting convened by the Manipur government discussed the implementation and updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), along with measures aimed at protecting the indigenous identity and security of the northeastern state, officials said on Tuesday.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh at the CM's Secretariat on Monday evening. Senior leaders of the BJP and Congress, along with representatives of civil society organisations, participated in the discussions, they said.

According to an official statement, the meeting focused on several key issues concerning the state, with particular emphasis on updating the NRC to safeguard the indigenous identity, security and future of Manipur.

The chief minister heard the concerns and views put forward by political leaders representing different parties during the meeting. The discussions concluded on a positive note, the statement said.

In a social media post, Singh said the meeting deliberated on several issues concerning the people of Manipur, including the updation of the NRC in the interest of the people of the state.

The meeting comes amid continuing concerns in Manipur over issues related to identity, security and the protection of indigenous communities. The NRC has remained a significant issue in the state, with various political and civil society groups calling for measures to identify and protect the rights and interests of indigenous residents.

The participation of leaders from different political parties and civil society organisations reflected an effort to build broader consensus on issues considered important to the state's future.
