Manipur PLA Militant Wanted Under UAPA After 20 Years On The Run Apprehended In Goa
A Manipur militant wanted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and linked to the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was apprehended in South Goa’s Cuncolim in a coordinated multi agency operation, marking a significant breakthrough in interstate counter insurgency efforts, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Nongthongbam Ingo alias Krishna alias Lal , a self styled Lt Colonel of the banned outfit, had been absconding for nearly 20 years before being tracked down and detained by the Goa Crime Branch. Earlier references to Margao were clarified by authorities, who confirmed Cuncolim as the exact arrest location after verification of intelligence inputs and field operations.
Police said the accused is wanted in a case registered at Lilong police station in Thoubal district of Manipur under provisions of the UAPA, linked to alleged insurgent activities of the PLA, which is listed as a proscribed organisation under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Investigators said the breakthrough came after two insurgents arrested earlier in Manipur in an extortion related case provided critical intelligence about his movements. Acting on these inputs, security agencies traced his arrival in Goa on June 16 and conducted surveillance before executing the arrest.
Officials said the operation reflects strengthened interstate coordination between state police forces in tackling insurgent networks. The accused has now been handed over to Manipur Police , where interrogation is underway to trace wider operational linkages, funding channels, and cross border support structures connected to the outfit.
