Mannepalli defeated by Ginting in quarterfinal, India’s journey ends at Swiss Open
India’s Tharun Mannepalli showed immense grit and determination before succumbing to Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in a tense, three-game quarterfinal at the Swiss Open Super 300 badminton tournament. The match ended 19-21, 21-19, 13-21, bringing an end to India’s campaign at the USD 250,000 event.
The contest began with Ginting, recovering from injuries that affected his 2025 season, asserting early dominance with a 6-2 lead. Mannepalli fought back brilliantly to level at 11-11, but the Indonesian pulled ahead to 16-12 and eventually secured the first game, despite three saved game points by the Indian.
The second game saw Mannepalli turn the tables, breaking away from a 6-6 scoreline to surge to 11-7 and later 19-13. Ginting, however, displayed his championship temperament, scoring six consecutive points to tie at 19-19. The Indian held his nerve to claim the second game and push the match into a decider.
In the final game, Ginting’s experience shone through. He dominated from the outset, leaving Mannepalli with little opportunity to fight back, ultimately sealing the match and ending the Indian’s Swiss Open journey.
Despite the defeat, Mannepalli’s performance demonstrated his resilience and potential on the international stage. Fans will look forward to his next outing, hoping he can convert such close contests into victories.
