Maruti Suzuki Raises Prices By Up To Rs 20,000, Third Hike This Year
Maruti Suzuki India has announced its third price hike since May, with prices of select car models set to increase by up to Rs 20,000 from September. The latest revision comes as the carmaker continues to face higher input costs and inflationary pressures.
Unlike the previous two increases, which covered the company’s broader passenger vehicle portfolio, the September hike will apply only to select models. Maruti Suzuki has not yet specified the exact increase for each affected model.
The latest move comes ahead of the festive season, when vehicle purchases traditionally rise across India. Buyers planning to purchase a Maruti Suzuki car may therefore have to pay more depending on the model and variant they choose.
The company’s latest revision follows two price increases announced earlier this year. In June, Maruti Suzuki raised prices by up to Rs 30,000, citing higher input costs. It announced another hike of up to Rs 30,000 from August, marking its second portfolio wide price revision within a short period.
The August increase affected models across its range, including the Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Jimny, Invicto and Victoris.
Maruti Suzuki has previously said it has been absorbing a significant portion of rising manufacturing costs through internal cost saving measures. However, continued increases in commodity and other input costs have forced the company to pass part of the additional burden on to customers.
The carmaker has also pointed to disruptions in global trade routes and energy markets following renewed conflict in the Middle East, which have affected the cost of raw materials and other production inputs.
The repeated price revisions reflect the broader cost pressures facing India's automobile industry. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles raised prices twice earlier this year, while Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India announced one increase each.
