Masked Men Open Fire at Dubai-Based Businessman's Delhi Home, Gang Links Probed
Two motorcycle-borne men opened fire outside the residence of a Dubai-based businessman in northwest Delhi's Lok Vihar in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting police to investigate possible links to the Rohit Godara and Lawrence Bishnoi gangs.
The incident occurred around 5 am in A-Block of Lok Vihar, where the attackers fired six rounds outside the house of Sahil Jain, alias Google. Bullets struck a car parked outside the residence and a house opposite the spot. No injuries were reported, police said. A purported audio recording circulating on social media claims responsibility for the firing on behalf of the Rohit Godara gang, describing it as a warning to Jain against supporting rival groups.
In the recording, a man identifying himself as Rahul Fatehpur from the Gilli Rana and Rohit Godara group claims the businessman was spared because the intention was only to intimidate him. The speaker threatens further violence if Jain fails to heed the warning. However, the authenticity of the recording and the identity of the speaker have not been independently verified. Police have not officially confirmed any gang's involvement.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akansha Yadav said two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing. She added that Jain had allegedly received a threat from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in 2021, with a related case registered at the Special Cell in 2023.
"There was no fresh threat after that. No one has claimed responsibility for the firing, and we are working on the intelligence," Yadav said. CCTV footage purportedly shows the rider wearing a helmet and the pillion passenger covering his face with a cloth. One of them allegedly got off the motorcycle and fired several rounds.
Police teams, along with crime and forensic personnel, inspected the scene and recovered one live cartridge and two empty cartridge cases. Investigators have seized relevant exhibits and are examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas to trace the suspects' entry and escape routes.
Officials suspect the firing may have been linked to an extortion attempt or an effort to intimidate the businessman. Investigators are gathering intelligence to establish the motive and identify those involved.
