Mbappé Hits Hat Trick as Real Madrid Cruise, Sávio Shines on Tottenham Debut

Kylian Mbappé launched his new season in spectacular fashion, scoring a hat trick to fire Real Madrid to a commanding 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad in La Liga, while Brazilian newcomer Sávio made an immediate impact with a goal and an assist on his debut as Tottenham crushed Charlton 5-1 in the English League Cup.

Mbappé struck once in the first half before adding two more after the break at the Santiago Bernabéu, giving new Madrid manager José Mourinho a memorable homecoming during his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.

Vinícius Júnior also opened his account for the season, while Jude Bellingham played a key creative role with two assists. Madrid had faced some jeers from the home crowd at halftime with the score level at 1-1, but Mbappé's second-half brilliance quickly changed the mood.

“A few boos won't hurt anyone, they actually make you grow,” Mourinho said after the match.

Real Madrid had opened their La Liga campaign with a victory over Espanyol, while Sociedad were looking to recover from defeat in their first league game.

In England, Sávio, formerly known as Savinho, wasted little time making his mark following his high-profile move from Manchester City. Introduced in the 71st minute, the Brazilian scored Tottenham's fourth goal just over 10 minutes later and then set up the fifth.

Tottenham recently completed the signing for 85 million pounds ($115 million), taking the club's summer spending beyond $400 million. Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies were also on target as Roberto De Zerbi's side bounced back strongly from their opening Premier League defeat to Brentford.

Elsewhere, Newcastle beat West Bromwich Albion 3-2, with Harvey Barnes scoring twice, while Everton thrashed Preston 4-0 thanks to a Thierno Barry hat trick.

The night also completed the Champions League league-phase lineup. Viking, Fenerbahce, AEK Athens and Slovan Bratislava secured the final four places, with the draw set to take place on Thursday.
