Mbappe Strikes Again as France Edge Paraguay 1-0 to Reach World Cup Quarterfinals

France continued their impressive FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign by booking a place in the quarterfinals with a hard fought 1-0 victory over a resilient Paraguay in Philadelphia. France could have extended their lead later in the game. Mbappe missed a one on one opportunity before Manu Kone came close with a powerful strike that was brilliantly pushed away by goalkeeper Orlando Gill . Gill also denied Mbappe twice during stoppage time to keep Paraguay's hopes alive until the final whistle.

Despite the narrow scoreline, France comfortably managed the closing stages and ensured Paraguay never found the equaliser. The victory underlined the team's composure, defensive solidity and ability to grind out results even when conditions and opponents make life difficult.

France will now face Morocco in the quarterfinals , with a place in the World Cup semifinals at stake. With Mbappe continuing his outstanding scoring form and the French squad showing resilience under pressure, Les Bleus remain among the strongest contenders to lift the trophy.
