Meenakshi Natarajan Moves Supreme Court After Rajya Sabha Nomination Rejected in MP

Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan on Thursday approached the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of her nomination papers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh , adding a legal dimension to what has already emerged as a politically charged contest.

Voting for the three Rajya Sabha seats in the state is scheduled to be held on June 18 , but the election process witnessed an unexpected turn after Natarajan’s nomination was rejected during scrutiny.

According to an order issued by Rajya Sabha Election Returning Officer Arvind Sharma , the nomination was declared invalid after authorities found that the affidavit submitted along with her nomination papers was incomplete. The order stated that certain information relating to a court complaint had allegedly not been disclosed in Form 26 , which forms part of the mandatory election documentation.

The controversy surfaced after objections were raised during the scrutiny process. As per officials associated with the Madhya Pradesh Assembly , a complaint was submitted by BJP candidate Mahesh Kewat , who alleged that Natarajan had failed to mention a case registered against her in Telangana while filing her affidavit.

The rejection immediately intensified political attention around the Rajya Sabha election process in the state, with the Congress leader now seeking judicial intervention to overturn the returning officer’s decision.

Natarajan’s move to the apex court is expected to bring legal scrutiny to the interpretation of disclosure requirements in election affidavits and whether the omission cited by authorities was sufficient grounds to reject her nomination.

The matter assumes significance as the election schedule remains in place and political parties prepare for the June 18 contest while awaiting further legal developments.
