Michael Jackson Biopic 'Michael' to Stream on August 10 After $1 Billion Box Office Run

After a record-breaking theatrical run, the musical biopic 'Michael', based on the life of the legendary Michael Jackson, is all set to begin its streaming journey. According to Variety, the film will be available on Starz starting August 10, giving audiences another opportunity to experience the story of the 'King of Pop'.

Released in theatres on April 24, 'Michael' has emerged as one of the biggest global blockbusters of 2026, collecting more than $1 billion worldwide. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, tracing Michael Jackson's extraordinary rise from his early days with the The Jackson 5 in the 1960s to his iconic 'Bad' Tour in the late 1980s.

The lead role is played by Jaafar Jackson, the late singer's nephew, while Juliano Valdi portrays the younger Michael Jackson. Both actors make their feature film debuts with the project. Colman Domingo and Nia Long portray Joe Jackson and Katherine Jackson, respectively. The film was developed with the support of several members of Michael Jackson's family years after the music icon's death in 2009 at the age of 50.

The film opened to $97 million domestically and $217 million globally during its opening weekend, setting a new record for a musical biopic by surpassing Straight Outta Compton. It also overtook Bohemian Rhapsody to become the highest-grossing musical biopic of all time. Additionally, Lionsgate achieved another milestone, as 'Michael' became the studio's highest-grossing film ever and its first release to cross the $1 billion mark worldwide.
