Micron Technology has announced a USD 250 million investment in the Trump Accounts programme, a new long-term savings initiative aimed at helping American children build financial security from an early age. The move, announced by Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra , was warmly welcomed by US President Donald Trump , who described it as the largest corporate investment of its kind.

As part of the initiative, Micron will introduce an employee matching benefit that will contribute up to USD 1,000 per child for eligible employees with children under the age of 18. In addition, the company will make a one time USD 250 seed deposit into Trump Accounts for eligible children in communities where Micron operates, including Idaho, New York, Virginia, California, Colorado, Minnesota, and Texas .

The company expects the programme to benefit up to one million children , giving families a stronger financial foundation while encouraging long-term savings from childhood.

The Trump Accounts programme will officially launch on July 4 , allowing any American child below the age of 18 with a Social Security number to open an account. Family members, employers, and other contributors can make deposits into these accounts, with the savings growing tax free , similar to individual retirement accounts.

Speaking about the initiative, Mehrotra said investing in people is as important as investing in technology . He noted that most of the funding would directly support children and families in communities where Micron has a presence, creating greater educational and financial opportunities for future generations.

Reacting to the announcement on Truth Social , Trump praised Mehrotra and Micron for making what he called an "incredible gesture." He said the investment would help millions of American children get a strong start in life while strengthening financial security for families across the country. Trump also said the initiative reflects growing corporate confidence in the US economy and aligns with his administration's goal of expanding economic opportunities for working families.

Micron's latest commitment comes alongside its previously announced investment of more than USD 200 billion in US memory manufacturing and research and development , a project expected to generate over 90,000 jobs nationwide. The company is also investing hundreds of millions of dollars in workforce development through K-12 STEM education , semiconductor curriculum development, artificial intelligence education , university and community college partnerships, and apprenticeship programmes to prepare the next generation of skilled workers.

The Trump Accounts programme has also received support from other prominent business leaders. In December , Michael Dell , founder of Dell Technologies , and his wife Susan Dell announced a USD 6.25 billion donation to support children under the age of 10 living in lower and middle income communities. With Micron now joining the initiative, the programme has gained another major corporate backer ahead of its nationwide rollout.
