Million-Dollar "1 Point Slam" to Return Ahead of the 2027 Australian Open

The million-dollar "1 Point Slam" will make its return ahead of the 2027 Australian Open, with organisers confirming that the fan-favourite event will once again offer a top prize of AUD 1 million (approximately USD 705,000 at current exchange rates). The unique knockout competition will take place before the Australian Open main draw, scheduled from January 17 to 31, 2027, at Melbourne Park.

The innovative format, introduced before the 2026 edition of the tournament, features matches decided by just a single point, creating high-stakes action in every contest. The knockout event brings together professional players, amateurs, men, women, and celebrity participants, making it one of the most distinctive attractions on the Australian tennis calendar.

The inaugural edition produced a remarkable underdog story when local amateur Jordan Smith stunned World No. 1 Jannik Sinner before going on to claim the title and the AUD 1 million prize. Smith secured victory in the final after Joanna Garland of Taiwan, ranked No. 117 in the women's rankings, sent a two-handed backhand wide on the third shot of the decisive point.

The 2026 competition also featured several of tennis' biggest stars, including Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Alexander Zverev, Naomi Osaka, and Taiwanese pop icon Jay Chou, who was eliminated without striking the ball after conceding an ace to Petar Jovic.

Reflecting on his memorable triumph, Smith said his journey began at a qualifying event at Sydney Olympic Park, and he never imagined it would lead to competing on Rod Laver Arena and winning the tournament. He added that his local club would host a qualifying event this year, hoping to inspire more aspiring players to participate.

Tournament organisers also announced that affiliated clubs, associations, coaches, and partner schools across Australia can register from next week to host 1 Point Slam qualifying events, offering players the chance to earn a place in the Melbourne Park finals ahead of the 2027 Australian Open.
