Celebrating Telangana's rich agrarian traditions and the beginning of a new farming cycle, Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday joined farmers in Siddipet district to mark Eruvaka Pournami , the traditional festival that heralds the start of the Kharif cultivation season .

The minister participated in the celebrations at Kurella village in Koheda mandal of the Husnabad constituency, where he took part in customary farming rituals alongside local cultivators. Stepping into the fields, he ploughed the land and sowed seeds, symbolically inaugurating agricultural operations for the season.

Extending Eruvaka Pournami greetings to farmers across Telangana, Ponnam Prabhakar expressed hope for abundant rainfall and a prosperous agricultural year. He prayed for bumper harvests, healthy crops and improved livelihoods for farming families throughout the state.

Ponnam noted that Eruvaka Pournami is more than a cultural celebration, as it reflects the deep bond between farmers, nature and Mother Earth . The festival marks the beginning of cultivation activities after seeking blessings for a successful cropping season and has been observed by farming communities for generations.

Highlighting government initiatives, the minister said efforts are being made to improve irrigation facilities , ensure the timely supply of quality seeds and fertilizers , and strengthen agricultural infrastructure across the state. These measures are aimed at helping farmers achieve better productivity and reducing cultivation-related challenges.

He also urged farmers to adopt scientific farming practices , use certified seeds and follow the guidance of agriculture department officials. Stressing the need for water conservation and climate-resilient agriculture, he encouraged cultivators to embrace modern technology and make informed crop choices.

Expressing confidence in the ongoing season, Ponnam Prabhakar hoped for sufficient rainfall, pest-free crops and higher-than-expected yields, leading to greater prosperity for Telangana's farming community.

The celebrations were attended by Agricultural Market Committee chairpersons, public representatives, agriculture department officials and a large number of local farmers.
