In a surprising turn to a missing persons case, police have rescued one of three boys who went missing from Ranchi after it emerged that they had run away to see the sea in Puri , Odisha.

Arjun Sharma (12) was traced and apprehended by police in Puri on Sunday, a senior officer said. However, his twin brother Karan and their friend Shiva managed to escape upon spotting the police, and a search operation is currently underway to locate them.

The three minors had gone missing on June 1 after which their parents lodged a missing persons complaint with the Hatia Railway Police. Authorities later intensified the investigation and announced a reward of ₹50,000 for credible information.

The breakthrough came after police analysed CCTV footage from Hatia railway station , which confirmed that the boys had boarded a train to Puri on their own, ruling out any kidnapping angle.

During questioning, the rescued boy revealed that the trio had travelled to the coastal town out of curiosity to see the sea. After reaching Puri, they reportedly spent time at the beach and survived by begging for food .

Officials said the two other boys fled when they noticed police personnel during the rescue operation. Efforts are continuing to trace them and safely reunite them with their families.

Police have reiterated that there is no evidence of abduction , and the incident appears to be a case of runaway minors driven by curiosity.
