Mission Accomplished! ISRO Places NVS-03 in Final Orbit, Gives India's GPS a Boost

India's indigenous navigation system, NavIC, has received a major boost after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully completed the third and final orbit-raising manoeuvre of its latest navigation satellite, NVS-03.

ISRO successfully placed the satellite in its designated geosynchronous orbit, marking a major milestone in India's efforts to strengthen its independent satellite navigation capabilities.

Following its launch aboard the GSLV-F18 rocket from Sriharikota on October 30, NVS-03 underwent three orbit-raising manoeuvres to reach its final position.

The successful deployment strengthens India's NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) system, which provides positioning, navigation and timing services across India and up to 1,500 km beyond its borders.

With NVS-03 in orbit, NavIC will provide navigation signals that help compatible smartphones and devices determine their location, while supporting the tracking of trains, ships and vehicles. It will also strengthen applications in disaster management and national security, reducing India's dependence on foreign navigation systems such as GPS.

NVS-03 carries India's third indigenous Rubidium atomic clock, along with additional atomic clocks, to ensure precise timing for navigation signals. It also supports the L1 frequency band, making NavIC signals more accessible to commonly used smartphones and navigation devices.

Designed to operate for approximately 12 years, the satellite will strengthen the reliability of India's navigation services and support civilian and strategic applications.
